Who's behind Tip of the Tongue?

Tip of the Tongue was born out of more than a decade of experience in project management, translation, transcreation, editing, copywriting and language teaching.

Tip of the Tongue was created by a passionate translator and writer, who loves words and languages.

Trained in law, translation, interpretation, journalism, project management, institutional communication, language teaching, history, literary translation and digital marketing (to be continued), she will gladly help you make your ideas and your projects come true.

If you’re looking for copywriting, communication, translation, editing or training services, she will present you with down-to-earth, efficient solutions by setting up the right teams for all your language needs.

Tip of the Tongue is a local business offering tailor-made customised services, without all the usual needless fuss.

We are a small structure with a human touch.

Me, myself and I

Welcome.

Hi, my name is Valérie Gillet

I am trained as a translator, copywriter, project manager, and French and English teacher.

I am a full member of the Belgian Chamber of Translators and Interpreters.

I’ve been working in this sector since finishing my long and eclectic studies in 2005.

Since then, I’ve been translating, writing, editing and managing projects for:

  • European and international institutions and agencies

  • European and international NGOs and bodies

  • European and public communication agencies

  • Private companies

  • Cultural bodies

  • Translation agencies

  • Publishing companies

  • Private citizens

  • Friends and family (as all freelancers are doomed to do)

To know more about my academic and professional credentials and my experience, please visit my LinkedIn profile.

You’ll find below a non-exhaustive list of the bodies I’ve been working with.

Although I translate all kinds of texts, I particularly like institutional, journalism and cultural subjects, as well as literary translation, development cooperation, marketing, imaginative transcreation and creative copywriting.

In other words, I specialise in anything that can’t be translated automatically and systematically.

I also studied law and I often translate legal documents.

Before working as a freelance translator and copywriter, I worked as a project manager, specialising in multilingual communication projects for the European institutions.

I’m also an experienced French and English teacher

As a single mum of a young teenager and a baby boy, I am a true independent soul. I’ve also been dancing since I was little and I aspire to become a properly trained yogini.

I’m passionate about travelling and the arts and I do my very best to pass on my open-mindedness to my children and my loved ones.

For those who read French fluently, I write about my everyday adventures in a private blog, entitled 'Presque parfaite'.

I’m also active on social media (Facebook and Instagram), where I try and post about subjects which are dear to my heart. Have a look!

Looking forward to working with you...
