Me, myself and I
Hi, my name is Valérie Gillet.
I am trained as a translator, copywriter, project manager, and French and English teacher.
I am a full member of the Belgian Chamber of Translators and Interpreters.
I’ve been working in this sector since finishing my long and eclectic studies in 2005.
Since then, I’ve been translating, writing, editing and managing projects for:
European and international institutions and agencies
European and international NGOs and bodies
European and public communication agencies
Friends and family (as all freelancers are doomed to do)
To know more about my academic and professional credentials and my experience, please visit my LinkedIn profile.
You’ll find below a non-exhaustive list of the bodies I’ve been working with.
Although I translate all kinds of texts, I particularly like institutional, journalism and cultural subjects, as well as literary translation, development cooperation, marketing, imaginative transcreation and creative copywriting.
In other words, I specialise in anything that can’t be translated automatically and systematically.
I also studied law and I often translate legal documents.
Before working as a freelance translator and copywriter, I worked as a project manager, specialising in multilingual communication projects for the European institutions.
I’m also an experienced French and English teacher.
As a single mum of a young teenager and a baby boy, I am a true independent soul. I’ve also been dancing since I was little and I aspire to become a properly trained yogini.
I’m passionate about travelling and the arts and I do my very best to pass on my open-mindedness to my children and my loved ones.
For those who read French fluently, I write about my everyday adventures in a private blog, entitled 'Presque parfaite'.
Looking forward to working with you...
